The small jobs, done right

Faucet aerator removed at a bathroom sink with a wrench nearby

Most plumbing calls are the small stuff: a faucet that won't stop dripping, a toilet that runs all night, a disposal that hums and jams, a shutoff valve frozen open since the house was built.

What's worth fixing vs swapping?

  • Repair: a quality faucet with a worn cartridge, a toilet needing a flapper or fill valve, cheap fixes on fixtures worth keeping
  • Replace: a builder-grade faucet past its parts support, a toilet with a cracked tank or a rocking base, the fix costs more than the fixture
  • Disposals: jam or leak? Jams get cleared; a leaking body gets swapped, disposal leaks don't repair well

The details that change the job

A shutoff that hasn't turned in twenty years can snap or start leaking the first time it's forced, worth mentioning when you describe the work. Same with corroded supply lines under the sink: a faucet swap on a crusted angle stop is a different job than one on a quarter-turn valve. Say what the sink cabinet looks like and the pro will know what they're walking into.

Anything else worth knowing?

Buy the fixture you want beforehand if it's a swap, the pro installs what you picked. Matching finishes across a bathroom takes a day of shopping, not plumbing labor.
